A credit union . . . you’ve heard
of it, but do you really know what it is? Moreover, do you know
the many benefits of being a member?
A credit union is a not-for-profit,
cooperative financial institution that is owned and controlled
by its members. In other words, it’s you and your family,
your neighbors and the people with whom you work; the people you
know. Credit unions exist to provide a safe, convenient place
for their members to save money and to make a wide variety of
loans to one another at reasonable rates.
In credit unions, the members
are the owners. Their volunteer boards of directors
oversee the credit union and approve policies elected by members.
Benefits of ownership for members include better rates on deposits
and loans and unsurpassed member service.
Regardless of their size or fields of membership,
credit unions are different than for-profit financial institutions
such as banks. Banks and other financial institutions exist to
make a profit for their stockholders, not their customers.
Credit unions
like Leaders exist to serve their members;
they exist to
serve YOU.
